LOCUS-21 Tree Sculpture

Edouard Sankowski's collections are elaborated with a strong emphasis on the notion of making use of materials that would usually and otherwise be considered waste and discarded.

In keeping with this process the odd-shaped sculpted stone in the collection, which are central to the designs, is composed of roughs recovered from the field.

He individually selects these roughs (marble or granite blocks and slabs) from French quarries and trusted yards that have been active for over 1000 years. Versailles and the Sacré-Cœur are among esteemed structures that were built thanks to these "Royal Quarries".

The Locus series started as project bent on leaving as little waste from production as possible on the table from projects requiring large single surfaces of hide. The cuts are optimized in order to achieves the least waste and render an array of leaves for the Locus and Loleka Trees, made with in-house Dyed Leather on Brass Structure and Marble Base.

Method made in France by the artist.
